taskbar freezes

for the last few weeks, my taskbar and start button have
been periodically freezing. usually it is only for 20
seconds or so, but it happens on and off constantly. and
it never fails, i will try to close a window or maximize
a closed window from my taskbar and i can't because it
freezes. i've tried installing new updates and running
defragmenter and clearing disk space, but nothing seems
to work.

Brian, taskbar and start button the only two that freeze. Not the mouse
or keyboard? How much Ram does your system
have?
