Taskbar and Quicklaunch

Alexander

Hello,

I'm having something of a problem with Windows XP. I
want to configure the toolbar a certain way and have
those changes stick. For instance, I don't need the
search assistant, so I right click on the toolbar, remove
the checkbox, and it's gone, but after I reboot, I have
it again! Also in the quicklaunch taskbar I have the
icons in a certain order, with the icons that I want
showing showing. Again, when I reboot, they get
scrambled. How can I make these little adaptations
lasting? I mean, it's little stuff, granted, but, as
with many other humans, there are some occassions in
which I would like to have everything be just so, and not
have to go through the process of rearranging everything
all the time. Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Greetings,

By the looks of it, you seem to have a spyware on your computer. The "Search
Assistant" box is spyware. I use to have one those on my system.

Try these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

Alexander: In addition to Jose, follow these steps:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"

(Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes)

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows. The Quick Launch settings should be retained now.
