Several times when an application is not responding I
have tried to end a process or thred and nothing happens.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how do I stop
the run away application or process without doing a re-
boot.

A good way of doing this is to download the following
utils (free):

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pstools.shtml

PSLIST and PSKILL will do the job
