task bar will not adjust

I tried to set up the quick launch process in my task bar. Each time that I
follow the process I get two lines, one with the quick launch icons, and one
with the running applications. The time, date and icons are list in verticle
rows. I am not able to adjust the section partitions to the right or left.
I have the lock tab unchecked. When I delete the quick launch feature I can
collapse the task bar back to one line. I am open to any suggestions.

See this post by Terri Stratton, MS-MVP. It's well put & appropos. http://tinyurl.com/o87u5

Suggest you look at Taskbar properties & select "Group similar task bar buttons".

What you describe is very common, especially if you have many icons in the quick launch. See if you have some lightly used ones, remove shortcut, and instead use the Start menu.

Thanks for the insight, but both Terri and your suggestion did not solve the
problem. In Terri suggestion she mentioned that the user may have increased
the task bar size. Is there a way to define the task bar size and lock it?
I did log on to another user on this machine and the task bar function is
working correctly.

Hello Chas,

Here's what you CAN do. Look at the number of icons you have in the quick
launch area. Having too many will indeed cause a fatter (larger) taskbar
area. So I'd suggest removing some of those that you use infrequently.
Once you have trimmed it down, slide the quick launch area to the right or
left.
To get the taskbar area down, hover your mouse pointer at the "outer edge"
of taskbar. When you see a resize icon, move mouse cursor down.

If you compare your 2 users' taskbars, you may just see that the other has
much less entries in quick launch area.

Let us know how it works.
