Table of Contents Grey Background

I would like to change the Table of Contents grey background to a white
background.

(Most of the Word documents that I create are viewed electronically rather
than in printed form.)

Can this be done in Word 2000?

Many thanks.

That is determined by the individuals user
Tools>Options>View>Show>Field shading.

There isn't really anything you can do about it if you want your TOC
to be interactive with hyperlinks.

If not, you could convert your final TOC to regular text or distribute
your document as a PDF.
