table caption in appendix word 07

Hello,
I have several chapters with the typical heading 1,2... formatting. Each
table caption under the main headings numbers appropriately. For the
appendix, I would like the numbering to be sequential letters. The appendix
format is a modified heading 7 which starts at A.

- I insert a table caption in the appendix and under numbering select
"chapter starts with heading 7"
-the table numbers A.1, A.2 (as desired)
-All previous tables now adopt the letter numbering style (regardless of
inserted section break or not)

I will do any tricks as long as the list of tables shows everything.

Really the problem is the lack of distinction between styles. A caption is
referring the same style in the main body and appendix (after section break).

You can apply any style you like to a caption. It doesn't have to use the
Caption style.
