Systen Restore crashes upon launce

System restore crashes upon launch via the start menu
selecting "System Restore", Events viewer shows incident
codes 1000 and 1001. It indicates "Faulting application
rstrui.exe, version 5.1.2600.1106, faulting module
mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2800.1400, fault address
0x0005ea0c." Help and Support center offers no specific
advice. I am unable to find any specific documentation
via knowledge base on what to do about it. I am able
verify that the system restore service is enabled. What
to do?

Have you checke that you don't have a virus or other malware?
Try that first.
