System suddenly reboots, anytime

My system has been acting a bit different the last couple of days, mostly a hard to describe visual.
Big difference, is the screens when booting (flashing, never did that before...and a 'flicker' between the black screen with XP logo and the Welcome screen).
It also reboots anytime it wants, usually when I don't want. There's a few event viewer additions, at the exact same time, but this is the last entry;

Event Type: Error
Event Source: VSS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8193

Description:

And here's the one before (the second to most recent);

I'm getting the exact same thing. Have you heard anything yet?
I read that I had to make sure I had all the updates for XP Pro, which I do. But I still get those two errors in my Applications Event viewer.

I was running into the same error that you described, and I fixed it.
I went into my services in Computer Management, and noticed that the Com services were stopped as well as the VSS services. I restarted them both and no more errors!

Just thought you’d like to know.

I figured it would be the disabled services, at least for the com and volume shadow. The random reboots, do you think it will stop those from happening?

Getting the same issue when I try and start Office Communicator (origianlly
Instanbul) but otherwise system is stable. I think it relates to COM+
services not auto starting (see Services). Found an article that ID 896728
(Availability of Windiws XP COM+ Hotfix Rollup Package 10) but can't find
where to get my hands on the download - any ideas.......
