Windows XP Volume Shadow Service (VSS) Errors generated while copying drive.

I get the following 6 Volume Shadow Service (VSS) Errors generated while copying my hard drive.

Any clue?

I believe all services are set properly and not disabled.

I use Casper XP 3.0

I first ran this by a tech at Future System Solutions (Casper). I would have thought he would tell me to disable VSS after seeing my error report. So I just assumed Casper utilizes VSS to perform the copy.

My other computer works fine during a clone process with no erros and VSS is not disabled.

as far as i can tell it doesn't. ask them if it does? i doubt it though as Casper can be run on windows 2000 which doesn't have support for VSS.

Their reply:

While Casper XP does not need to use the volume shadow copy service, it is
highly advisable since it enables Casper XP to see a complete point-in-time
image of the disk that it is cloning.

i have run out of ideas monts.

searched google and technet and found nothing.

if it were me experiencing the errors if it wasn't causing problem with casper and the backups were working correctly i'd leave it be.

if the backups aren't working correctly and all available windows updates are installed then i would rebuild the machine.

If I back up in safe mode, Casper finds no exceptions, and the backup seems fine.
If I backup in Windows, Casper shows one Norton antivirus dll as an exception, but the back up still seems okay.

ah, you didn't say you have norton, that could well cause problems.

try uninstalling it and see if you get the same errors.

I may try that but my other machine (basically the same set up) also has NAV 2005.
I was hoping the error messages can point to some problem with a service or the registry that I could fix. Otherwise I will ignore the problem or do a repair install.
