System still hangs up at shutdown. HELP!

Mark

Since installing SP2 my system has refused to shutdown.
It hangs on the 'windows is shutting down' screen. Also,
while on that screen my mouse pointer appears and I can
actually move the pointer using the mouse. But that's
all - and the system must be shut down with the power
switch.

I have tried the 'ctfmon' fix, which had no effect. I
have tried uninstalling the intellipoint software, which
had no effect. What else can I do? I need my system to
shut down when commanded to do so.
