cryptnet.dll hangs at shutdown/logoff

I have a new IBM T40 Laptop, a fresh (= 2 weeks old, with quite some SW
setup already) Windows XP Pro installation, with following problem: Not
always, but 8 out of 10 times, windows hangs when shutting down. I have
verbose status messages enabled, and the logoff window's status line reads
"executing c:\windows\system32\cryptnet.dll" - mouse pointer can move, but
I can only cold reset the system.

Any ideas?
thanks for help

My advice is to you is to call IBM as they may have a fix
for this issue already... Visit their website to find
out which number to call. www.ibm.com in USA

It is not their Windows installation; I installed it on an erased HD from
scratch.

I tried to delete cryptnet.dll from both the system32 and dllcache
directories - seems to cause no problems, but this is certainly only a
question of time.

Try to do a repair or clean reinstall.

Your problem is probably cause by the cryptnet.dll file
being corrupted.

It is certainly not cryptnet.dll itself - I did replace it already and it
is bit-identical with the same file on other systems.
I suspect some combination with a LAN od WLAN driver causes this, and as
mentioned, it happens not always.

I find no reference to this problem anywhere on the Internet, so I am
afraid I have to go back to an earlier drive image and restart from
there...

I have the same problem with T41, with the original installation
(after Window update and latest IBM updates).
The problem started about the same time that I installed the latest
group of IBM updates, but I can not tell if it is related.
Anyone knows about a way to see if it is the DLL that causes the
problem, or something else?
One more hint - when I had NAV 2003 installed, it seemed to hang on
one of the NAV DLLs. Can it be the component that is activated after
this DLL?
