Hi
Since Ive had to reinstall (due to spyware, and possible virus) some of the 'system' routines run really slow. eg When I click on the Clear History button under Internet Options the egg timer comes on for quite a while (ok about a minute) compared to before the reinstall, even if theres only like one website in the history.

When I right click to clear Recent Documnets under the Advanced Start Menu it is the same.
Shutdown seems really slow too....

Im using XP Home, ive only got a 900mhz AMD Athlon processor with a 40gb hd but it seemed much faster before.....

any ideas???
THANKS!

When you say "reinstall" did you do a clean install; i.e., delete the
operating system partition and format the drive first? If you only did
a Repair Install (the operating system overtop of itself), then your
computer is still not clean. What does your antivirus scan show?

I don't understand why you HAD to reinstall. Why not just fix what every
problem with spyware using adaware and spybot, and do a decent virus scan
fix for any virus?

Try some of Kelly's excellent information and see if you can fix it. We
don't know what changes you made or why.

I did a total clean reinstall.
McAfee VS 7 found a virus and deleted it but whenver i rebooted it was there again.
Adaware, Spybot and CS (?) Shredder didnt find a thing.
The McAfee help people even suggested a reinstall as a worst case scenario, which this was!

Ive personally found Adaware and Spybot to be useless. especially if you get the 'Search from Address' spyware/virus.

Ive also found the stuff on Kellys to not work at all!
Thanks anyway.
Guess Ill just have to suffer!

When you said a total clean reinstall, that would include deleting the
partition right?

I think i did....I certainly tried too anyway! Is there an easy way to check? could that be a problem?? I certainly formatted the HD (using the setup program) and im 99% sure i deleted the Partition....

No. No problem from this angle. If you formatted the HD then I'm 100% sure
you deleted the partition as well.
I just wanted to make sure you have completely deleted the old system.
Well, I am convinced now.
Sorry I couldn't be of further help. Good luck !

Have A Happy Day !

Correction. Correction. Correction.
You may format the HD (with the setup program). But the partition may still
be intact.
To delete the partition, from within the setup program you choose to delete
the partition FIRST.
You should remember because the prog would remind you that you were about to
delete
a system partition.
As it stands I am no longer 100% sure that you have deleted that partition.
I am not saying that this is the problem though.
