System slow

Guest

When I am on IE or Outlook Mail, it takes approx. 15 seconds to go to a link
or switch pages, especially links. It also takes the same amount of time to
access IE from my desktop.

I have XP home Version 2002 Service pack2.
Pentium 4 2.60 GHz
1 GB Ram

I don't know why it so slow but I feel like I am on dial up (I have cable
modem)

I hope someone can help me.

Thank you so much, Mike

Hi mikerapolas :)

If you have recently updated to the Java 6.0, uninstall it in Add/Remove
Programs. There have been problems associated with the 6.0 update on some
machines that causes IE to open and/or respond very slowly. If it does not
revert back to the Java 1.5.0_05 then reinstall the _05. You can find the
_05 here:
http://www.tucows.com/get/194327_86883
That should return the system to normal speed.

The problem isn't Java - it's Spy Sweeper:

Hi Mike :)

As a test, uninstall Spy Sweeper then reboot and see if that helps. If that
does not resolve the problem, then you can reinstall it. If it does, then
you know what is at fault and can find a resolution from there.

Hope this helps.

Ted & Jan,

Thank you very much for all the info. I removed Spy Sweeper and I have not
had a problem since. WOW

Now the age old question. How can I reinstall SS and still eliminate the
previuos problem? I have paid for it and I really do not want to throw my
money away?
Hope you can help again.
