When I leave my machine on for about a day with or without my Broadband
running. The system becomes very sluggish especially when first used after a
few hours layoff.
Is this a general problem with XP Professional.
I use auto update so assume that I am uptodate.

Any ideas??

Hi Ted
Thanks for replying.

I run MacAfee Home Edition Virus Software and use the Firewall all the time.
This is also on Auto Update and appears to be uptodate all the time. I
also run Privicy Defender I have checked what I can from the software they
all come up OK.

If I reboot and continually use it the machine it is fine and very
responsive. As soon as i leave it for a few hours it gets very very sluggish
it then improves but never to the extent that it is when I first boot up.
Shut down is also extended. All Programs take 1 to 2 mins, some even longer,
instead of the 1 -5 seconds as normal.

I run Seti in the back ground but have don forever on all my old machines
without any problems.

Any suggestions welcome.
