Man,I am perplexed. I cannot use any restore points. I can only use the ones
I create and try 15 min. later. I cannot use the one I even created the night
before.
This worked fine on my old system but had problems when computer store
transferred to new system using my cd. I have Wind.XP Prof.
I done the norton 2006 disconnect for "Turn protection on for Symantec"
Does not make a difference.
Im just puzzled that it worked so good everytime on the old system; although
I did not have Norton...

HELP?????????

Please help us to help you. What does "I cannot use any restore points"
mean? What happens when you try? If you get an error message, please quote
it verbatim.

I have a nice utility called WinRescue XP, which creates restore points
with each backup. If you restore one of the backups, the restore point
for it is used.

I have been having this problem (that I know of) since last January. The
screen, Unable to restore to the (date) restore point, comes up each time I
try to do an RP following a NORMAL Boot. If I do a Selected Boot with only
the following M/S Services "DCOM SERVER, PLUG & PLAY, REMOTE PROCEDURE CALLS
(both of them), & SYSTEM RESTORE" set, with no 3rd party services or startup
items set,
then I can usually do an RP... NOTE I said "usually"... This always is the
case... I have done almost everything but a CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS XP (Home
Edition) to try to clear this up. I have been working with Microsoft
Research Engineers to try to solve it but nothing works. If I do a NORMAL
BOOT after doing a
probable fix recomended by M/S it works for about 1 hour or sometimes less
then when I rey to do a Restore (even to a point that previously worked) I
get the "Unable to Restore...." Message. If anyone out there has a solution
I would definitely like to hear about it as I intend to do a CLEAN INSTALL of
Windows XP when I return from vacation, but would rather not have to do this.

What Symantec does not tell you in Symantec Document ID:2005113009323013
which deals with the so called Solution is that the only RP's you can
restore to are
those created with the "Turn protection on for my Symantec protect" unchecked.
Other RP's you might have created outside of the UNCHECK show the Unable to
Restore message.... I found this out through trial and error and am running
OK fol-
lowing doing the following:

1) UNCHECKED the "Turn protection on ....."
2) clicked OK
3) Disabled Windows System Restore to eliminate all BAD RP's
4) Enabled Windows System Restore to open a new Restore file
5) Created a new Restore Point
6) Waited 5 minutes
7) Restored to the NEW Restore Point (Completed successfully)
8) Waited 5 minutes
9) Did an UNDO of previous RP (Completed successfully)
10) Repeated STEPS 5 thru 9 with various wait times for over 3 hour period
and have been successful ever since....

If this keeps up for the next 24 hours I am closing my open ticket with M/S
support on this issue.

I opened a chat with Symantec and was advised to use the temporary fix as
suggested by Symantec Document ID:2005113009323013 until Symantec Research
got back to me advising they had come up with a software fix to their 2006
products

Hope this helps you all out, for those of you who need to restore to an RP
which you
cannot do without, I suggest you do a SAFE BOOT (F8) and after you're up do
the
System Restore to the needed restore point. THIS SHOULD WORK....

Hi Don,

This is good information. I just want to make sure I understand this
correctly. Please correct me if i am wrong.

The bottom line is, that any restore points created while "Symantec
Resource Protection" is checked and turned on will produce the error
"Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . "
