System Restore

Just a little background on what's happening before I ask my question on
system restore........ My computer came with a 90 day trial of McAfee, it
expired today. I had already purchased a retail copy of McAfee right before
I received my computer because I thought it would come without antivirus
software since I configured it with NO antivirus subscription. Well, I tried
to install my retail copy today and there is a problem getting it to update.
I've been on online chat with McAfee trying to get this resolved but I'm
still having problems since it appears the reps just give standard answers
that don't always help. When I log in to my McAfee account it shows I have
software valid up to 12/12/06 and even shows it is a retail version - but it
still won't update (keeps saying my subscription is expired). Since I'm
without up to date virus software until I get this resolved with McAfee, I
tried to do a system restore hoping it would go back to before I tried
uninstalling trial McAfee and installing retail McAfee. That hasn't seemed
to help. Are there certain things that system restore just won't fix? I'm
new to Windows XP (I have Media Center edition), my last computer was 98SE
and it didn't have that function. Am I not restoring back far enough? I
restored to this morning and I didn't try the uninstall/install of McAfee
till this evening. Any help would be appreciated.

System restore is not a magic tool that takes a system back to a certain
date exactly as it was on that date. It only monitors certain files and
restores those to the state they were in. So it may not work for all
types of program installation problems.
