System Restore Windows XP

Ralph

I have run into a recurring problem where my system
restore does not work. The first occurance, I had a
problem and found it necessary to go back to an earlier
date, but there were no earlier dates established. Then
just the other night I attempted to restore to an earlier
date, had multiple dates to choose from, and got a
message that said the computer could not be restored to
that date. I picked several others with the same
results. I have the system restore enabled and have never
disabled it. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks,
Ralph.

I'm sure there's other options but one thing that usually works is to
disable Restore and reboot the computer then re-enable it. I'm not sure
about this but you may need to delete the restore points and reboot again
before re-enabling System Restore. Am I right guys?

That is safest. I would clear out the folders - have Folder Options -
View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones. Then
clear out 'System Volume information' on each drive before re-enabling
SR, so it gets a really clean start. I would also go into the settings
and review the space allowed - it appears that the 12% of a drive set by
default is too much for its own good on modern very large partitions;
I'd keep it under 1 GB and actually use 500 MB
