be domain administrator to do this (which in am not) or computer must
belogged into the domain. I have tried installing xp sp2 but gives error

Hi

Have you tried reinstalling System Restore? Open Windows Explorer and go to
the windows\inf folder. Find the sr.inf file in the right hand pane, right
click on it and select Install.

Yes of course it is important to be administrator.

I have admin rights to onthe laptop but cannot login as administrator
into the domain and that is controlled by corporate IT. That's why it is
failing eh! All my searches did not find this answer. Thanks.

But doesn't seems logically, as we have over 300+ pc's and how would the
daily updates been passed to these pc's if the domain controller needs
to login into each one of them?
