System Restore Stopped - Cannot Create New Resore Points

Guest

System Restore can not create new restore points and there are no old restore
points shown on the calendar.
I have verified that there is enough space alocated for the System Restore.
I have turned System Restore for all drives off and back on. I have tried
running System Restore in Safe Mode. When I check for restore points, I get
the message " there are currently no restore points available". When I try to
create a restore point it says "System restore is not able to create a
restore point. Please restart the computer, then run system restore again." I
restart the computer and get the same errors.
The Event Viewer gives the following error whenever System Restore is run:

Event Type: Error

Hi,

Turn System Restore off again. Then turn it back on and ONLY let System
Restore monitor the drive/partition Windows is installed on.

Then test System Restore:

If any error messages appear post them here.

Bert,

I turned System Restore OFF for both C and D drives. Then I turned it back
on for BOTH drives and then clicked on the D drive and SETTINGS and put a
Check in the box "Turn off System Restore on this Drive" and clicked APPLY.
Then I got this error message "System Restore encountered an error trying to
enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and start
again.". I restarted the computer and tried again with the same results.
When I tried to test System Restore, I got this error "System restore is not
able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, then run system
restore again."
Any suggestions?

Mark,
I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps that seemed to apply with no
luck. Any other suggestions?

You might have some luck with Error Checking that drive, then turning Sys
Restore off and on again. Rightclick the drive icon in My Computer,
Properties, Tools tab, Error Checking, restart.

Mark, I Error Checked my C drive then turned System Restore off and back on
for C drive (not monitoring D drive). Tried to Create a Restore Point and
received this error: "System restore is not able to create a restore point.
Please restart the computer, then run system restore again."

Sorry if I am doing this incorrectly-alas I was unable to find a way to add
to your all's conversation:

I am encounteriing similar issues with XP Pro/SP2:

"The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC000007F'
while processing the file '0000000G.que' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It
has stopped monitoring the volume."

I suspect imminent Hard Disk failure...Any input is greatly appreciated.

I am leaving the System Restore problem to Bert but concerning your hard
disk concerns I suggest you look at HD Tune.

Try running HD Tune(freeware).

Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy
to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Also do a full surface
scan with HD Tune.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bert,

I was under the misconception that "HarddiskVolume1-C-Partition was failing"
my bad-it was System Restore which should have been turned off to begin
with..Which I did..Now I am all good thank you all...

Mark,

I have contacted Microsoft Online Support about this problem and they
downloaded a hotfix but I am reluctant to install it because it does not
address my exact problem. The hotfix refers to KB888402 which says it is
intended for problems with error 0xc000000d or 0c000007f. My error is
0xc0000001. The hotfix is file 209635_ENU_i386_zip.exe. Do you think it would
be OK to install this file?

Thanks,
Don
