System Restore & Norton Go Back

In an earlier post, Bert Kinney provided links to explanations of these
programs.
System Restore came with my Gateway computer, but I got GoBack free with my
Norton Internet Security purchase.

Would it be harmful to have both on my system? One of the bad side effects
after I tried to install Norton Internet Security 2006 was that I could not
do a system restore.

Thank you,

Thank you,

There is no definitive answer to your question. I don't use System Restore
as I consider it unreliable. I justify this by my own experience plus the
consistent cries for help, in this and other News Group, from those who have
found SR lets them down when it is needed. Use ERUNT to provide a reliable
backup of the Registry. With respect to GoBack, I use it and it seems to
work well for me although there are some who claim it is troublesome. There
are also those who say the installation of GoBack disables System Restore
but not all agree. I don't know, as I said I don't use System Restore and I
have disabled it on my system. Personally I don't think you can go far
wrong with ERUNT, GoBack and an Imaging program of your choice.

I totally agree with your approach. I also use ERUNT, GoBack and backup
images using Norton Ghost 10 to protect mine. It's worked well for me.
I've used GoBack for several years and never had a problem. But it's
installation has never disabled System Restore for me. I just did a clean
install of Windows XP Home about a month ago. Afterwards I reinstalled NIS
2006 and NSWP 2006 with GoBack. I just checked and System Restore is still
running and has made several restore points since then.

Thank you, Dave and Edward.

I never heard of ERUNT before, but I am investigating it, and it looks like
something that will be very helpful.
