system restore failure

Hi Lonny,

Depends on many issues. Has your system been cleaned for spyware, etc? Did
this behavior start from running/removing from the above said, etc?

If so, I would suggest running the cleaners mentioned here:
Cleaning Up XP: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_c.htm#cleanup

If this is not the case:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start/Run and type:
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.

Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate to
"C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf (choose Install)

Hi Lonny

One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one new SR checkpoint.

Common niggle. Disable system restore. Reboot. Enable it again. Will
"usually" fix system restore.
