System Restore blank screen

N

Norman B. Grover

I recently switched on system restore, but when I launch it, its screen
comes up totally blank.

I've tried disabling and re-enabling, fiddling with the settings
(partitions monitored, percent of disk allocated), safe mode, vanilla boot,
even launching via the command line--screen always comes up blank; Help and
Support Q313853 didn't help either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open MY COMPUTER, click the Tools menu > Folder Options, choose the VIEW tab
and uncheck "Hide extensions for
known file types".

Click OK.

START > RUN
Type
%windir%\inf
<enter>

Find the the file
sr.inf

Right-click it and then click Install.

Dear Ramesh,
I ran the two regsvr32 commands you recommend (I use IE7, so the
third is not necessary). They both executed successfully ("Dll
RegisterServer...succeeded.", but the System Restore window still opens to
a blank. I also tried executing olereg.vbs; that too ran successfully but
did not solve the problem. Any other ideas?
Thank you for your help.

Dear Jerry,
Installing sr.inf does not solve the problem. Thank you for trying to
help.

Try this one:
Blank System Restore Calendar
http://www.dougknox.com/
Dear Rey,
The little utility you referred me to did indeed find two erroneous
registry entries, and repaired them; unfortunately, the System Restore
window still comes up blank.
Thank you for trying to help.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to take when System Restore fails to
restore: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html
Dear Mark,
That is a very comprehensive site you sent me to. I got all the way
down to System Repair without solving the problem. When I reinstalled
System Restore after downloading SP2 (the next-to-last step), all the old
restore points were deleted and a new one created. (I know this because I
have a small utility that displays the list of restore points.) But the
System Restore window still comes up blank.
At this stage I would rather not run a System Repair, and will just
leave things as is. Thank you again for your help.

Hi Norman,

Does running the .JS association fix from here help?
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

If not, you may try reinstalling Windows Script 5.6 to see if that helps. You can download WSH 5.6 from here:

Download details: Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000:

Rudy. You are the dunce. Even if you are right in your assumption then it is still a
3 year old post which is not being watched by the OP.

Peter,
Even if you are right in your assumption

In other words "duh, yes I did not read it and it looks like you are right".
then it is still a 3 year old post which is not being watched by the OP.

Are you the OP ? No ? Than how can you possibly know that ?

But as your mouth seems to be engaged while your brain is not yet into gear
I will explain it to you :

No, the OP will not be looking for that specific post.

Yes, the reference to that post will bring back memories to the OP of the
person he was than conversing with, which is the very person who now wants
to get into contact with him.

Capiche ?

Granted, its possible that the OP does not visit this newsgroup anymore. But
trying is better than doing nothing at all.
