To add information to previous post. I am loading the new
updates from a CD that a friend downloaded for me as I
only have dial-up instead of DSL and downloads take so
long. Does the install from a CD differ from straight
download from the internet??

Not really! Just make sure that any anti-virus programs are turned off
before installing the updates.

Also, you should have continued with the original post, so as to keep track
of all the possible solutions.

System reboots can be caused by many things usually a bad stick of memory,a
bad power supply or the cpu itself overheating. How old is the computer?

Secondly there is a nasty virus on the net that likes making XP reboot
constantly.Update your anti-virus software then run a systemwide scan.If you
dont have a anti-virus program feel free to use the free anti-virus scanner
by trendmicro located on our website. Its on the front page in the blue bar
to the lower right.

Hope this helps some
GoodLuck and Happy New Year! =)
