System Re Boots It's Self

Question. My computer has been re-botting on it's own
lately. What happens before it re-boots, It goes to a
blue screen with white type and it tells me to check my
memory with some type of utility that comes with winxp.
What utility is it talking about that I can use with in
winxp? And where do I go to find this utlity, and use it?

This may mean that you have bad memory (often the case). You can test this
by either replacing the current memory with memory you know is good or by
using a utility to test the memory. I'm not aware of a utility XP has to
scan whether or not memory is bad. Sometimes your computer manufacturer
provides a utility like this (Dell does) or you can get one off the internet
perhaps at download.com. But be aware that these utilities can sometimes be
wrong. I had PC memory that tested fine in the utility, but turned out the
memory was bad because when I replaced the memory the errors went away.

Another possibility is a virus. Also, you can check the settings for your
computer "automatically rebooting" by looking in My Computer Properties >
Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery Settings > Uncheck "automatically
restart". But there's probably a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.

sqr - You have some serious problems when all you can do is go around to
various posts to critique answers and be nit picky.

Keep in mind that we're all volunteering our time to offer help usually in a
hurry. Give peopel a break. And BTW, you don't have a lock on computer
knowledge although you think you do.
