System LAGS for 15-30 minutes when Windows Starts

I am running Windows XP Pro, on a Gateway notebook in an
active directory domain. When I start the computer and
login to the domain the computer takes anywhere from 15-
30 minutes before it finishes running all background
processes and will operate at a functional level.

I have tried numerous different adjustments to try and
figure out what might be running.

* Defragged Hard Drive
* Thorough Scandisk
* MSCONFIG - Selective startup - disabling programs that
start automatically
* Disabling some of the startup services

What makes this problem so challenging to troubleshoot is
that it only happens the 1st time I logon each day. Once
the system has logged on once, it will not manifest any
issues until the next day.

Using Task Manager Processes I have reviewed several of
the items that are running in the background, but nothing
abnormal.

I work in a network with 25 other computers and none of
them have this same problem. There is one individual who
has the same model notebook who works for our company,
but is on a different network who has the same problem.
I have spoke with Gateway Technical support who denies
there is any problem and try and give me basic
troubleshooting suggestions.

I hear the hard drive running during the time that the
computer is lagging, so I know that something is running,
but I can not figure out what.

Does anyone know of a program that will show me exactly
what is running and the CPU and Hard Drive utilization of
the program, so I can isolate this problem?

Thanks for any help provided.

I don't know what all you have on your system, but this sounds like a
program that performs some function the first time a machine is booted up.
Antivirus programs checking the system and / or getting updates comes to
mind. Task Manager, built into WinXP, may provide a clue. I usually Right
Click on a blank area of my task bar and select Task Manager from the pop-up
menu to open TM. Go to the Processes tab to see what is running. If yore not
familiar with this window, it may take some getting used to and some
interpretation of the processes is needed; not all are obvious. Watch to see
what is using CPU cycles (shown in a column) and also watch to see if
anything disappears from the listing after a while. Please post your results
here. We could all benefit from the information exchange.
