I have Windows XP, One gig of RAM, 200 gig hard
drive...etc. Weather it's in screensaver mode or surfing
the net, the computer just freezes. What steps can I take
to fix this annoying problem??

It's hard to pinpoint without more info. It could be a program that's
running (check what's running in Task Manager). Try reducing the number of
programs automatically launched with icons in the system tray. It could be
a bad driver - network, display, IDE controller or other. Make sure your
drivers are up to date and that you have the latest patches from Windows
Update.

Assuming your PC is tuned up ie no spyware, viruses, done chkdsk, etc.
then a hard lock with no error message is often due to bad ram or bad
video drivers.
