How do you stop window explorer from freezing when
Opening up large folders ie. A folder with 23 gigs of
mp3's. Takes for ever to open up, or some time freezes.
Computer (2.6 ghz p4 HT w/ 512 mb of ram) 80 gig hd, and
a second 40 gig hd. Please email me.
Sorry - you ask here - you come back for the answer.
When you open such a folder, Explorer spends a lot of time checking in
each file for additional information
You can try turning that off for relevant file types - eg for MP3, run
regedit..exe
and open to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3
Highlight that and File Export, then open open level further, highlight
PersistentHandler and delete it.
You will still see the information for any individual file if you
r-click and look at properties, but I think that removing this will
speed up opening a folder.
There is a lot to be said though for not letting too many things
accumulate in one folder - click in it, that New - Folder and make some
sub-folderrs, and move things into them; for example to organise your
MP3s by (say) Artist
