Slow to send to recycle bin

Hi

I have a PC with 2.5 gig RAM, a 3.2 gig P4 with HT and I run defrag weekly.

When I delete a file or folder it takes a long time to finish the deleting
process.
Even a small file can take 30 seconds and a large file, say 1 meg can take a
minute.

Any way to fix this?

thanks

I empty the RC bin often, but not immediatley prior to defrag,
I have checked the speed of deleting after emptying the RC bin
and it made no difference.

I presume that there is still a large part of the disk still free (unused)?
Also what AV, and other software do you have running in the background?
Does it take a long time to copy a file to the drive as well?

Hi

I am using Norton's AV and Internet Security,
the 160 Gig HD is 30% full and a test shows it to be 100% healthy,
small files copy instantly but I do think large files take longer than
they should to copy.

cheers

Norton has been known to slow things down, but not this much.
But as an experiment disconnect your system from the Internet, turn Norton
AV off, then try deleting a file.

Hi

I have been working off the net and with NAV and NIS disabled, and it is
a big improvement.
I will look at the settings.

Thanks for your help.
