Hello,

The mouse freezes-up exclusively at startup. Problem started around
the time backup hard-drive was installed. Might there be a conflict
with the backup hard-drive?

How can the mouse freeze-up be fixed?

Thank-you

What kind of a mouse? USB or PS2? If it's USB, try another port.

Keyboard still work, I take it?

The mouse is PS/2 compatible. It is necessary to (manually) restart
the computer; as the mouse beings working again on after restarting
the computer a second time.

Does any thing show up in Device Manager
or Event Viewer?

After the mouse has quit, you might try looking at what the Device
Manager says. I've disabled the PS-2 function on my motherboard, so I'm
not positive whether the port will show up there, but I think it should.

I suspect it's a hardware problem rather than an interrupt conflict.
Could be that the PS-2 controller on the motherboard is flakey, less
likely the mouse.

Have you tried another mouse? Do you have an adapter to convert from
PS-2 to USB, and a spare USB port to try?
