system freezes

I have a new Presario computer that came loaded with XP
Professional. If the system is idle for more than 20
minutes it freezes and must be restarted. The time that
the system freezes shows on the clock which does not
continue to run. Any thoughts or suggestions on what to
do would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem right now, except that my
system freezes as I'm using it; but it happens at a
regular interval (about an hour). It's clearly the hard
drive, in my case, since the activity indicator light
goes on right before it freezes. It almost seems as if
the hard drive is responding to some scheduled task, and
that process makes it seize up. I've tried system
restore and a bot-killer program, but no luck yet. I'm
going to try an earlier restore point next time...

The operating words here are "new Presario computer". Take it back to
where you bought it immediately. Get a new one. This is probably a
hardware issue and will not heal itself. ;-)
