Ravi

I was on the internet and an error message came up (for a
program unknown to me) with the "send report" / "don't
send" options. I clicked on don't send, and another box
came up saying something like error occured...done by
NT/Authorities/System, the system must shutdown, it has
now done it twice, both times i have been on the
internet, i dont know if this has effected it.Please, can
anyone help?

You probably have the Sasser or Blaster worm. See this:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp

You can check your system for infestation from this site.

To prevent shutdown, after receiving the NT Authority
message, go to Start, Run and type shutdown -a then hit
OK. This will prevent the shutdown.

A tool called Stinger will remove the worm from your
system, it's free:

Be SURE to read the instructions for XP !

You should get anti-spyware software (SpyBot AND Adaware)
and use them regularly (both have free versions). And keep
them updated !

Also download the latest Microsoft Critical Updates
(from Internet Explorer go to the Tools menu and hit
Windows Update) and also run updated anti-virus software.
Scan your computer at least twice monthly !

Good Luck !

I see you are not using a firewall and that you do not use Window Updates on
a regular basis. If you did, you would not be infected with the
Blaster/Sasser worm.
