system configuration Utility

Under the Start Up tab in the System Configuration Utility What boxes must checked to run the basic windows xp functions?
I have intstalled additional software on the computer and they have attached themselves to the startup menu slowing my machine grinding hault.
HELP ?

XP itself needs none. You could have a graphics card that
has a utility program, a laptop might have a touch pad
program, etc. when you start in the safe mode you're in
the os only, if you look at them and the detail you
should be able to tell what they are. you can un-check
them one at a time to see or un-check all and add back
what you use.
