System Configuration Box persistance

Guest

After startup I always get the system configuration utilty box appearing on
my desktop. I always check the box at the bottom but to no avail. Its been
loading up for months. My system has automatic updates so is completely up
to date. Is it a "dirty bit"? Does anyone have a solution?

Hi Deusenberg,

Login as Administrator, and try this:

Click Start, Run and type "msconfig /auto". You'll see the same selective
startup dialog now. Now, check the option "Don't show......." and press OK.

If that does not help, try the script below from Doug's site:

Deusenberg,

Can you try the same from Safe Mode (Administrator account) ?

Both methods failed (thank you Ramesh for your prompt response). Guess I'm
done for?

Unfortunately it only stopped it for the first restart, thereafter it
reappeared every time.
Thank you again for your help.

Deusenberg,

The selective startup reminder will show on every boot, after using MSCONFIG
tool. Did you happen to use MSCONFIG during your previous logon session?

To prevent that, you need to delete the value named "MSConfig" from the
following registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

BTW, Doug's script does the same.

I have not used MSCONFIG since the first occasion of its persistance, ie
months ago. I can only say that I will perform the steps as you recommend
again and hope they will, at some point, stick. Thanks again
