System Boot Hangs at Mup.sys

K

Kendall

Hello

Got a system that started rebooting one morning out of the blue..
I get a blue screen then it reboots.. quickly.. so fast I can't read
it.
Tried to boot in safe mode. It gets as far as Mup.sys then reboots.
(Don't know if mup.sys is actually the problem or not.)
No hardware changes have been made. All USB is onboard (tried
disabling). Swapped memory and removed the only PCI card installed
(Modem) No help.

Any course of troubleshooting action left?

Hi there,

Actually I just fix this problem in my machine. I had
this and I was worried. This was how i did it.

1. Place in your windows xp cd,

2. Boot up with the cd

3. Select Recovery Console by pressing R

4. Will load into C:\

5. Type chkdsk

6. It will scan and recover - it states that i had an error

7. Then to make sure everything works, i boot into safe
mode

8. Open msconfig, make sure automatic update is disable,
you can use group policy to disable.

9. Check that msblaster.exe (not sure what is the
filename) is not in system32 folder

10. Finally, boot up into normal mode.

11. Whenever you online, make sure you enable the Internet
Firewall which is built into Windows XP for security
reason (correct me if i am wrong, my colleague told me
that blaster spread as my rpc is open - something like
that).

Things went pretty okay. Hope it helps.

Thank you.
