safe mode>hang at loading mup.sys

Advance option menu>safe mode> it will hand at loading mup.sys.
If the option LKGC was chosen, it will go to desktop but will hang when the
message 'found new hardware usb root hub' but there is no physical attachment
to the pc. There is no other attachments except mouse/kb/monitor and internal
cd rom
I have done chkdsk c: /r and the above senario is the outcome. Any idea how
I can get my pc working, thanks

Will it boot if you disconnect all peripherals except mouse, keyboard
and monitor.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing
the F8 key during StartUp and select option - Disable automatic
restart on system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Have you tried rebooting with your Windows XP CD in your CD
drive.

Is your hard drive recognised by your BIOS. Whilst there check the
Boot sequence.

It's not necessarily hanging at mups, that's just he last file displayed
before it hangs. Will it boot into normal mode?

Yes, it will start normally and it will hang somewhere along the line
after
some icon appearing in the system stray (bottom right). Why is it saying
"found new hardware usb root hub'when there is non? Can I go to the bios
and
hit the 'load the default setting"? (fyi, I even have the cd rom
disconnected)... thanks

This could be a hardware problem.

After you've eliminated any hardware issues and it still doesn't boot, have
you tried a repair install?

What is the make and model of your motherboard. What is the date of your
BIOS?

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

At last we have isolated the problem (hd) and guess now is for welsh to
get a
new one. Many thanks to those who have given the suggestions/possible
solutions

Good, that's what I suggested in the first place - eliminate the hardware
issues.
