system 32 problems

i am hoping someone can help with the following. Months ago i uninstalled
Norton antivirus and am now using Zone alarm ss. i noticed a lot of Symantec
stuff still on my system and i would often delete it if i came across it and
maybe that is what i have done wrong. Now when i try to install new programs
i get an error message headed
16 BIT WINDOWS SUB SYSTEM
C:\ PROGRA~\Symantec\S32evnt1.dll
An installable virtual device driver failed dll initialization.
(i have located the file s32evnt1.dll in system 32)
if i click ignore the next error message is
C:\WINDOWS\system 32\autoexec.nt.
the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows
applications.
it seems to have disabled some features of installed programs as well but
things are working 90% ok. i just cant really install new progs which of
course is annoying after d/loading 150 mb through a modem. Any expert help
would be much appreciated.
thankyou

This installaton program will reinstall the missing or corrupt Windows XP

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you

Start>Run and type in this without the quotes:
"cmd /c copy /y %windir%\repair\autoexec.nt %windir%\system32"
The other message referes to your antivirus.

Have you tried downloading / installing this valuable application from
Microsoft known as Scripten? If not, in the Microsoft Search for box type -
Windows Script 5.6 - after un-installing Norton AV including most other
Symantec applications, installing Scripten frequently heals the OS after
removing Norton, provided you are running XP or 2000. Should that suggestion
not assist / heal your OS, investigate Symantec's Knowledge Base for better
removing the remnant of NAV which often is somewhat difficult in your current
situation.

Wishing you all the luck needed!

Suggest YOU search on "Scripten", as you suggest others do. You won't find
ANYTHING.
