16 bit windows subsystem

I recently uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus using the
add/remove. Shortly after that I began getting an error
message at different times. Mostly when I tried to use my
scanner. The heading of the error message is the subject
here. The body is: C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An
installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL
initialization. Choose "close" to terminate the
application.
I have gone to the Symantec website but do not find the
exact situation to solve this problem. I do close the
window but everything becomes very slow from then on. Is
there a way to eliminate this problem? Thank You all for
helping those of us in need.
