I have a Win XP Pro SP1 with all the hot fixes. I am
preparing to clone this computer. So, I run sysprep after
creating the image I attempt to restart the computer. At
this point I am welcomed with the following error:

An error has been encountered that prevents setup from
continuing.

Windows is unable to start because the registry could not
be updated. To address this problem, please contact your
computer manufacturer. Windows must now shutdown.

After this I reloaded the image i created and the same
message keeps on appearing. any help would be greatly
apprciated.

One can use ghost without sysprep to backup for the original machine.
A rule of thumb should be to ghost once B4 sysprepping if you re not
used to sysprep... Just to be able to roll back in the case you are
experiencing.

But... maybe I am too late for this advice
;)
Hope this (can) helps (someone else)...
