Hi

I have just inherited a laptop with XP Home edition in german. I am thinking
of changing to the english XP Professional version. Can I simply load the new
version to replace the german one and keep all installed software and files,
or does this procedure require a clean install. I appeciate any help.
Thanks.

Hi,

It requires a clean install to change from German to English...

A "clean install" is required.

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
WinXP (in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.
