I have AVG installed on an XP machine. An email was sent to me from someone
who was not known to me...so I saved the email's attachment to my "c" drive
to check and see if it had any viruses...it did, so I deleted it. I DID NOT
OPEN IT. But now my AVG keeps telling me to run the anti-virus program,
because it found the file infected with the virus in my restore files in my
c volume. How can I delete that. I tried doing a restore, but the AVG screen
keeps coming up telling me that the files infected, so the restore doesn't
go through.

Turn off system restore, this will delete the infected files, then do a
thorough scan and only once the PC is declared clean, turn system restore
back on...

Probably a good idea to check on the AVG site for a SWEN removal tool. If
there isn't one there, it can be found on the Symantec site...

I believe that you have to delete your RESTORE points.. and NEVER EVER save,
store, or open e-mail attachments from unknown sources

I'll try it...thanks!

If you use the useless system restore it is just a matter
of deleteing all previous restore points and then doing a
complete virus scan of your system and while you are at it
defrag\clean\error check. Then create a restore point with
your system now clean and tidy. Keep smiling.

No question about it! The Alien technique is the best --- my name given to
the manoeuvre shown at the ending of the cinema film.

Virus in Restore File Make sure alien is in the chute
Create a Restore Point now Close porthole door shut tight
Disk Cleanup > More Options tab

LOL! Very good analogy, and fun, too.
