suspend to RAM

This is what I asked not long ago

"Does the computer heat up on standby? Because when i put
the computer on standby the cooling fan doesnt turn off
and its too loud. Anyone have any suggestions?"

And the answer I got was this

"There are different stages of standby. If you
use "Suspend to RAM", the computer is essentially off.
There is only a small trickle current keeping the RAM
alive. Not much heat, if any, is generated."

Does anybody know how to turn on Suspend to RAM standby
mode?

I think what you are looking for is hibernate. After you click Turn off
computer, hold down the SHIFT key to make the Stand by button change to
Hibernate.

Standby is closer to a suspend to RAM but the system still uses power and
some will still run the fans, like yours. Hibernate actually saves the
current state of the computer to the hard drive and uses no power, but it
will bootup faster and return you to where you were rather than a cold
start.

Hope that helps.

I had to enable it in the BIOS to get it to show up as an option. I use it
all the time, works great. Computer is completely silent and cool
(otherwise it runs hot enough to heat up the room it sits in significantly).

Hibernate also works good but is not as quick as suspend to ram.
