Surprise Reboot problem with NeroVision Express 3?

I realize this query is not directly related to MM, but I've seen many
references to Nero, so here goes...
I just installed a new DVD burner on my PC, along with an add'l 120GB drive.
The DVD burner came with an OEM version of Nero StartSmart that did not
include the piece to burn my DV-AVI file onto the DVD, so I downloaded the
trial version of NeroVision.
It worked fine at first, I burned 2 copies of my video, but when I tried to
burn a 3rd copy, right in the middle of burning, POOF!, my PC rebooted.
The same reboot occured twice more the next day when I tried to do a backup
with Nero's "Backitup".
Thank you.

Hello,

That's a symptom of a (very) bad call within the program or to a procedure
within XP....OR, you have a loose cable

I used to be plagued with this problem. Cables were forever working loose on me
and sometimes the error manifested itself in the manner you are experiencing.
On that front my solution was to rip out all of the cables and buy new ones
from a different manufacturer (Belkin) and that problem went away.

In my programming days if I had not been careful I could induce the same
problem if the code was sloppy...result, I became boringly fastidious over the
code. The same can happen though due to a bad installation. TThis may just be a
coincidence....I was given Nero 6 as a gift and installed it over the top of an
old OEM version (5 I think) It did not seem to work right (I can't remember the
fault now) Anyway, the solution was to uninstall everything Nero and start
afresh....then I discovered I could do a free upgrade to Nero 6 Reloaded
(Brilliant Software) and I promptly lost all of the help files to do with Nero.
Because an installation failure can result in different problems depending on
the system it is installed too I would hazard a guess that your solution will
be to uninstall it, reboot a couple of times (makes sure XP forgets it) and
then run a cleanup utility to get rid of redundant entries in your
registry...and of course visit the location where Nero once existed and make
sure that you delete it all...and then start fresh.

Hope these not so few boring words help a little ??
