Trying to create DVD-R with Nero

I have the recent version of Nero Ultra 6 and I am using Nerovision Express.
I have a recorder that writes to CD & DVD+/-R DVD+/-RW. I am trying to create
a DVD-R and after waiting for the burn process the cpomuter opens the drive
and says something like cannot copy to CD.... I was told by someone at Best
Buy that I need to select DVD-R somewhere during the process. I can't figure
it out. The movie was edited on MM and saved to DV-AVI. Any one help? Thanks

If the writer can use both types of disc you don't need to select the type
of disc the writer will recognise it. How are you trying to write the disc,
you need to author dvd discs, which means taking your dv-avi file and
converting it to a dvd compliant mpeg2 file, then this gets changed to vob
files on to the disc which also contain things like the menu system you can
make etc.
