Creating DVD's with CD-R's or CD-RW's

I have created and edited a movie on Windows Movie Maker 2 and want to make a
DVD to play on a DVD player. I only have a CD-RW burner and DVD ROM drive on
my computer. Can I burn a DVD using a CD-R or CD-RW with my existing drive or
do I have to use a DVD-R or DVD-RW with a DVD burner?

No, but with the correct software you
can make a VCD that should play on
most DVD players.

Some apps that can create a VCD are:

The retail version of PhotoStory 2...
comes with the MS Plus! Super Pack.

Plus! SuperPack for Windows XP

Photo Story 3.1 that is included with
MS Digital Image Suite 2006.

Corel Photo Album 6

There are probably dozens more.

Hi Keith.....DVD burners are fairly cheap to buy and then you can author and
burn
a DVD from your computer to play on your player. You will need a third
party software to author and burn a DVD....I'm sure a software package will
come with a new burner such as Sonic. But there are many software programs;
I use Ulead's Movie Factory...which you can download the standard version
from Ulead.com and purchase for about $50. They have a 'trial' version
which you can try first before you buy.

Some players will probably play a movie burned on cd, but the quality of a
video cd (vcd 320x240 mpeg1) or even an svcd (480x480 mpeg2) will not be
comparable to dvd quality (720x480). Try out any software the comes with a
burner, but sometimes what is bundled isn't all that great. If you have the
money you could get some of Ulead's upper end software and you won't be
disappointed i'm sure. I just use the regular version which has been the
most stable i've used.

If you are editing your movie in Movie Maker, you save it to your computer
uncompressed in DV-AVI format, which will take a lot of space on your drive.
You then use your dvd authoring/burning software to import that movie and
then follow the instructions until you have your dvd burned. Your movie
will be 720x480 and whether a movie or slide show will be much better
resolution than cd. Good luck.

The only thing is that this is a one time thing. I don't want to buy a
program or download it because I have a slow internet connection.

Jerry

Then go buy a DVD burner.
