Hi!

Not sure if this is the right group, but if not - just let me know and
I will post this question in the appropriate group!

We are currently running W2K Server, and are thinking of upgrading our
hard disks. This, in and of itself good. Presuming things get
"approved", then I will be back asking for advice on that.

But before that, I have to complete my proposal - and that includes
Data/Server Back-up.

Right now, we are using TapwWare in conjunction with a Seagate DAT
drive 20GB Native/4- Compressed (DDS4 I beleive).

I am proposing we move to the Seagate SCSI (320/0 drives with 80GB
capacity. This would over double the requirements for Back-Up
capacity.

I have not even looked yet, but I am now questioning if DAT back-up is
the best way to go for regular data backup.

Some facts: We are a SMALL company - and while we may have some money,
we do NOT have deep pockets - nor do we have bottomless pockets. We do
NOT have an "IT" department, this is one of the "other duties as
required" on my job description. I have been running and maintaining
this server successfully for some time. I am by no means a "novice',
but I am not a total guru either.

Having said that, I am curoius what other ways exist nowadays to get
this job done without selling the farm to do it.

All advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What price are you paying for the 80GB Seagate SCSI tape drive?

If that meets your needs, great.

I have switched to an HP ULTRIUM 1, 100 GB / 200 GB compressed, using Tapeware,
and I have never been happier. I backup 70GB, of which 50GB is over the
network, in 1.5 hours.

The drive costs between $2000 and $2500, depending in Internal or External.

?????

No, I will be buying 80 GB Seagate SCSI320 Hard Disks.

I am currently using A Seagate "Scorpian" DDS4 20/40GB Tape drive.

The whole point here was to find out what was a good option for
backing up larger amounts of data.

I like the option you propose because we can continue to use Tapeware
- which is AWESOME, and I can hook it up externally - so set-up should
be a SNAP!

Thanks for the info! :)
