Suddenly MM exits without save!

I'm new to MM.

I'm trying to learn how to edit a movie. I've inserted clips and stills.

Each time, I try to do an edit function (fade in), any edit function,
suddenly the program exists without saving what I did.

What would cause this? I downloaded the program from cnet.

I'm on MM2.0 on XP.

If you're trying to use MPEG-2 files, it could be because Movie Maker
doesn't work with them.
