Suddenly can't remote destop into my XP workstation??

Up until the other day I could remote into my desktop.

I'm running xp pro.

I checked and remote access is enabled and my user is allowed. I
check
and no apparently firewall is running on my desktop... though not
100%
sure how to check in xp.

From my desktop I can remote out to other stations both inside and
outside our firewall.

But when I attempt to remote into my desktop (even from my desktop)..
it tries for a few seconds and comes right back with no warning,
error
or even an eventlog entry.

I've rebooted and still can't remote in.

Are you running the latest graphics/video adapter drivers on the Remote
Desktop host PC? Are you running any VPN client software like a Cisco
client? This page has help troubleshooting Windows Firewall problems.

I had exactly those symptoms this week. RDP host is an HP Media Center PC,
WinXP MCE SP3 with nVidia fx5200 and it was working just fine then
suddenly, I can't login from laptop.
The reverse - RDP from HP to laptop works ok.

No error messages on laptop client, just no login. Dialog blinks on connect
and resets. Netmon sniff showed connection established and then closed so
it's not a firewall issue. RDC to a Win2k server works from laptop so it's
not the client.

End result:
Battlefield 2 FPS game says, update to latest video drivers. I obediently
updated.

Simultaneously at about this time (2008-JUN-11) Windows Update fires with
hotfixes.

Remote Desktop = broken.

Came here to this group to see if there was a bug in a hotfix or something.

Run Windows Update in Custom mode and find nVidia driver update is
available. (again - I think something (BF2?) reverted it)

Perform video driver update, all current WRT Windows Update.

Reboot. All fixed. Remote desktop working again.
Whew! That was not fun. I needs me remote PC.

The same happened to me. Finding the previous post here, I've tried to
install the latest nVidia drivers from their download pages, but that didn't
fix the issue (it forced a downgrade, which means that they removed the
version I had installed a few days back).
So I uninstalled the nVidia drivers. Unfortunately XP doesn't have a good
default driver for my GeForce 8600 GT based card, but I can now remote
desktop to my machine as I used to before, which proves that indeed it was
the nVidia driver that was the problem.
Now I'm trying to install the much older driver that I sill have on my
system...
