subwoofer speakers on xp

E

elaine

I have bought subwoofer speakers to use on my home xp
computer but I am only getting sound out of one of the
speakers though both of them are in working order. They
both worked in the shop when i took them back so the shop
think it is the settings on my pc, but I am unsure what
to do to my settings to cure this problem. Help. Thankyou

If you could supply the brand/model of the speakers that
may help.
Assuming that the amplifier is built into the subwoofer,
make sure the speakers are plugged into the subwoofer and
then the subwoofer is plugged into the line out of your
sound card.
Also, make sure you've pushed in the plug all the way, as
if the jack is not pushed in fully you can end up with
only one channel working.
Make sure that the speaker set is plugged into the
correct jack on the sound card. Some 5.1 sound cards have
a plug just for the centre channel, which may explain why
you're only getting one channel working. The correct
sound card jack on many modern sound cards is green.
