Style Definition Problems

I don't really know where to put this since it does not really apply to
any of the existing topic areas. I have two documents and I am
attempting to keep the styles identical in both documents. The problem
is that on a few of the styles, particularly - but not exclusively -
the numbered styles, the style definitions are not an exact match. A
couple of examples: Header 2, the definition on one includes the words
"outline numbered", the other does not. Bullet 1, the definition on
one includes the word "bullet", the other does not. Thing is, when the
styles are actually applied in the document, they look identical, so
apparently the definitions are just slightly different and it is not
affecting the documents themselves. I would not have worried about it
myself, but my boss is convinced that the two stlyes must be exactly
the same, descriptions and all. We have tried editing the style,
copying the style over and overwriting the other style, deleting the
style on one doc and copying the other style in, still no dice. It
just won't change to match. Any ideas?

Bullets and Numbering can be major headaches. That is because their
definitions are not contained just in formatting or styles but in something
(mis)named "list templates."

Hi R,

If you don't have lots of sections and headers, the easiest thing might be
to make a copy of one document, delete the content, and paste in the second
document.

For the future, if you want to create more docs with those styles, you can
save the empty document as a template.

Regards,
Klaus
