Stuck on mup.sys during boot up

N

nada

I changed my motherboard and after that I couldn't boot up my pc anymore.

Neither in normal mode nor in safe mode.

When in safe mode the last driver loaded is MUP.sys

I tried to boot with the WinXP CD but it hangs when before I can choose any
option in the windows setup blue screen.

Any help would be much appreciated

TIA

You will need to do a repair install at the very least. You may need to
do a full install. Have the drivers for the new motherboard to hand.
Here are links to information about both types of install:

That is the last file that gets loaded, so this is hanging during
initialisation.

After changing motherboard it is important to start off immediately with
a repair reinstall. Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then
boot the XP CD, start Setup (do not take `Repair` at this stage), then
after the license agreement take `Repair Installation`. This will
retain your existing software installations and most settings. But
Updates will have to be run again, especially SP1;
It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.

You will probably find you need to activate again by phoning in,

I am not clear about your description of booting the CD - it sounds
more like what you get if you run the CD from the system - and that you
are not in fact booting it.
